Apocalypter Guide

Beginner Guide - First Days in the Wasteland

New to Apocalypter? This beginner guide walks you through your first hours: finding a car, getting it running, managing hunger and thirst, and surviving the procedurally generated wasteland.

Quick Answer: What to Do First in Apocalypter

Find a car and get it running before anything else. The official loop is scavenge, loot, survive — and every part of that loop gets easier with wheels. Strip nearby vehicle wrecks for an engine, wheels and a radiator, loot buildings for food, and save often (the game allows saving anytime). Do not pick fights with faction camps until you have a weapon you trust and body armor.

Your First Hour, Step by Step

  • Orient yourself: there is no map — navigate by compass and landmarks
  • Search the nearest abandoned buildings for food and basic supplies
  • Strip vehicle wrecks for an engine, wheels and a radiator
  • Get any car running — any part installs on any car, no limitations
  • Add a crate or box for storage before your first long loot run

The Systems That Will Kill You

Apocalypter is a survival game first: hunger, thirst and sleep are real needs. The official food list includes bugs, dog food and mystery meats — and you can hunt, butcher and cook animals (yes, including rats). For water, dew collectors mounted on your car produce it passively. Treat food and water as loot with a deadline.

Portable maggot farms mount on your vehicle and grow food while you drive — an early game-changer for the hunger clock.

Your Car Is a Character

The car is the core system: install better suspension, engines and radiators; add cosmetic parts like steering wheels, gear levers and seats; and use the part adjuster tool to move and rotate the engine, exhaust or radiator however you like. Parts take damage over time — wheels wear as you drive, and engines and radiators overheat without oil and water. Maintenance is survival.

Combat for Beginners

Enemies use the same melee and ranged weapons you do, with guns in different stats and calibers, and they randomly drop ammo, weapons or healing items when killed. Early on, melee near your car is the safe play: you can retreat, and you never run out of swing. Body armor, bandages and first aid kits are the listed healing kit — carry them before you carry ambition.

Watchtowers and camps come in hostile and non-hostile flavors. Scout from a distance before driving in.

What to Do Next

Once your car runs and your food clock is stable, the world opens: find a trader (merchants buy and sell randomized stock for rusted nuts), upgrade your character kit (body armor, backpack, flashlight, binoculars), and start working toward the long-term goal — eliminating the warlords and mounting their trophies on your car. The world navigation guide covers landmark piloting; the car building guide covers your first real build.
